Their focus is to help women up their game
1284_ 9/24/12 - We're talking with a serial entrepreneur, one who has had a very successful career in the corporate culture, and who is also very involved in the community. We're talking with Melodie Reagan. Melodie doesn't just lend her presence and expertise - she get's right in the mix, takes her gloves off and makes a difference. You may remember her tenure as president of TiE Rockies, she founded the Women's Business Executive Network and has a passion for promoting women. Why Moxie Exchange? The reason she loves Moxie is because it's structured and its focus is to help women up their game. It's creating a community between women leaders that are out there, so it's very different in that regard. The other thing that Melodie wants to highlight, because it's really important, is that business really needs women leaders more than ever. Today we're talking about the new Moxie Exchange Movement, a professional organization for women. "Fundamentally it is where business and the women you know collide", said Melodie. It is very unique in that it's not just a networking group - it really is a mastermind organization for women. On top of being a mastermind organization, it gives its members a board of advisors, it also provides you with coaching and new learning. So this is a professional organization for women who want to take their game to a new level - they want to learn. There's more... RELATED LINKS:

IT infrastructure solutions for companies of all sizes
1286_ 9/24/12 -
We are here with a valuable resource, AppliedTrust Co-CEOs/CoFounders, Trent Hein and Ned McClain and winners of the Colorado Companies to Watch 2012. AppliedTrust is an IT consulting firm and we help mostly with IT infrastructure problems for companies of all sizes. They like to say they do the hard IT stuff so you can be awesome! What that really means is they do Internet or network plumbing stuff like performance, security and availability. And Trent points out, AppliedTrust is one of the few organizations that helps other organizations with Open Source technology - so they help them apply, maintain and operate open source technology in their environment. Because of the economy we've asked Trend and Ned what they think are the biggest challenges to entrepreneurs today. Trent said he thought one of the biggest challenges was for an entrepreneur to differentiate their company from the rest of the marketplace. ATE has that challenge and they work with a lot of startups in Boulder, and they have that challenge. There is so much noise out there that it's hard to pick out what are the companies that can really deliver what they say and that there's a need for whatever it is they do. Next question, what are the greatest opportunities. Ned takes this one and said, "In our space it's really exciting, cloud services. Companies can roll out first class infrastructure, first class products without investing millions of dollars in computing infrastructure ...Listen for much more...

A wide variety of different winning companies
1281_ 9/17/12 -
The Colorado Companies to Watch program Award Winners program, 2012, has a variety of different winning companies. "This year's Colorado Companies to Watch winners show the impact small business has on our economy and demonstrate why Colorado is one of the nation's leaders in innovation and entrepreneurship," said Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper. "We want to congratulate each of these companies and wish them continued success." "Small businesses are the cornerstone of Colorado's economy and a vital part of our economic recovery," said Ken Lund, Executive Director of the Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade. The winners employ nearly 2,000 and had combined revenue of $377 million. We are delighted to be part of the Colorado Companies to Watch program to highlight their accomplishments." SoundTraxx’ corporate entity, Throttle Up! Corp., was founded in 1989 in Pocasset, Massachusetts. Our first product was a powerful little lighting system called the Hyperlight. In 1991, SoundTraxx introduced the SoundTraxx D220-IR Diesel Sound System. This was the first sound and throttle system to incorporate wireless control. In 1994, the company moved to Broomfield, Colorado, a suburb of Denver. The DSD-2408 Digital Sound Decoder was the first DCC decoder to be integrated with sound and lighting functions. In 1998 they moved to Durango, Colorado and purchased a new SMT (Surface Mount Technology) line of manufacturing equipment...

Jump Start 2012 is Denver's economic development strategy
1283_ 9/24/12 -
We first met at a very powerful meeting here in Denver, Colorado. We'll talk about that, and Jump Start 2012, with Paul Washington, Executive Director in the Office of Economic Development for the City and County of Denver. As an overview, Jump Start 2012 is the City of Denver's economic development strategy for this year. Based on seven pillars of economic development 1. Business Retention, 2. Small Business Advocacy, 3. Business Recruitment, 4. Sustainable Neighborhood Development, 5. Business Lending, 6. Workforce Development and 7. Key Strategic Projects. Now, in each one of these pillars, there are a number of key initiatives and numerous milestones that need to be achieved in order to meet the strategic initiative. As part of the Small Business Advocacy focus, Paul tells us, they want to make sure they are doing everything to bring attention to the small business community in Denver. The reason this is important is because small businesses represent a huge percentage of Denver's workforce and employment base. As an economic development agency OED wants to make sure they do everything they can to support small business and bring positive attention to our entrepreneurs and then that will lead to more attraction to capital which will result in more employment opportunities, insuring that economic development will remain strong in Denver. One of these initiatives is ...Listen for more…

Today Larry is interviewing John Kelley, Chairman and CEO, of CereScan. This exciting company is working on ideas that will help tons of people in ways never dreamt of before. Psychiatry and Neurology have been struggling for years with the dilemma of how to accurately diagnose patients with chronic brain disorders. This is particularly challenging when there are multiple symptoms and potentially more than one causation in the patient's brain. CereScan is an exciting new business here in Denver that's in the business of helping patients and doctors sort out the problems that patients might be experiencing with brain disorders. We combine imaging and diagnostics and giving a treating doctor the best possible information in the world, to help their patients. CereScan is just now beginning to gain acceptance with medical professionals dealing with chronic and potentially debilitating disease. Today, CereScan is shedding new light on neurological conditions such as Parkinson's Disease, Alzheimer's Disease, and mild Traumatic Brain Injury. Larry asked, why would someone need a brain scan and diagnostic evaluation at CereScan? John said, "The brain is a very complicated organ and as we've seen with the NFL or the military, it's really hard to start figuring out what's really wrong in the brain. Whether it's children who experience a problem at birth or people in car accidents or people who are experiencing things like ADD and Bipolar ...Listen for much more...

Train, provide feedback and deliver services remotely
1278_ 9/17/12 -
ViaWest operates in 5 states around the country with offices in Colorado, Texas, Nevada, Utah, and Oregon and their ability to virtually manage their teams and deliver their services is something they're proud of. With a wealth of experience in high-level operations management and team development, Bob Newman leads ViaWest’s service delivery group. Newman joined ViaWest’s senior management group in the fall of 2010. He said, "We do have a structure on training that enables us to train remotely, to provide feedback remotely and to deliver our services across those states. Our customers expect that the technology will deliver and is capable of delivering the technical service that they expect. But when you overlay the Culture of Service on top of that, which Bob believes is, 'feelings first and facts second' - which has worked for Bob in his career and he sees it here at ViaWest. What that is, you look through the customer's lens and see what are the implications to their business when technology goes awry, and that happens with every customer. When it does go awry how quickly can you assess, isolate and bring that back up - that culture emanates from our senior management team all the way down to the individual contributor. The entrepreneurs roots of Roy Dimoff and Nancy Phillips permeates throughout the organization as well and that is, we know who our customers are. And we don't pull out the contract and beat our customers over the head to deliver on services. We want our customers to be successful." Listen for more…

Customer Focus is North America, Colorado a Sweet Spot!
1282_ 9/17/12 -
Here's how a Denver based company became a winner in the Colorado Companies to Watch program, 2012 - Fueling the Economic Fire of Colorado. Find a niche - like an SAP professional services company. That's what Yosh Eisbart and business partner Michael Pytell did. They founded NIMBL about three years ago. A Denver startup with customers from Miami, Florida going all the way up to the northern tip of Canada. They are North American focused but their customers really do run from coast to coast and north to south with clients like Exxon Mobil, PepsiCo, Nestle... From a Colorado perspective NIMBL has a very nice Colorado customer base - and they are really growing because there are no SAP specialized, Denver based services firms like NIMBL. Yosh explained, "While SAP, the most widely used business software package on the planet, is dominated by the Big Four, NIMBL is small enough to not be subject to the fiscal constraints of the business model of a big consulting firm. Eisbart says. "There's a trend in the SAP marketplace that organizations are looking for more agile, nimble and flexible consulting firms that are able to react quickly and moving away from the institutional behemoth. NIMBL isn't shackled by the traditional handcuffs of profit margins..." RELATED LINKS:
