Software operations, strategy, and capital fundraising

We are at the Mountain Desert Region EY Entrepreneur of the Year Finalists Reception at the Governor's Mansion here in Denver, Colorado, speaking with Kevin Hickey, President and CEO of BeyondTrust. Kevin brings a strong history of software operations, strategy, capital fundraising, and mergers and acquisitions to BeyondTrust, where he is responsible for the company’s day to day operations. Kevin joined BeyondTrust by way of the company’s acquisition of eEye Digital Security, where he served as CEO and Chairman. Under Kevin’s leadership, eEye experienced significant growth, launched several 'market-first' security solutions and brought the company back to category leadership. Larry asked what advice Kevin would give to an entrepreneur. Kevin said, "One is that it is all about people. Find good people, nurture them and make sure they feel part of the fabric of the organization. Two is extreme clarity. To me, anything you have in your company, if you make it extremely clear as to what the expectations are, it really helps because everyone understands, and then let people run. One of the things I've heard over again in my career is, 'it's not what you preach, it's what you tolerate'. So those are some of the things I've picked up and would like to share with folks. It's all about people." Listen for more...

Recent acquisitions, the expansion and how it was funded
1574_ 6/30/14 -
We are here today with Ken desGarennes, CFO, Zayo Group, and we're talking about expansion... from Louisville, CO to the Denver Tech Center to Boulder, the UK and France and finally consolidating the Tech Center and opening a downtown Denver office. They're spreading, expanding, building and surpassing the Billion Dollar milestone! We asked Ken to tell us about recent acquisitions made in Europe, the expansion and maybe how it was funded. So here is the Zayo story as told by Ken... "Sure. I think Zayo is somewhat synonymous with acquisitions. Clearly we've done quite a few and mostly in the U.S. but more recently in Europe. One has closed, Geo in the UK and the other has been announced but not yet closed, Neo Telecoms, in Paris, France. Zayo entered Europe as a business in 2012 when they acquired AboveNet, so this is a bit of an expansion on the toe hold we already had in Europe." Zayo Group is a global provider of bandwidth infrastructure services, including dark fiber, wavelengths, Ethernet, IP services, SONET, carrier-neutral collocation, and technical services. Our network footprint extends 79,000 route miles, with connectivity on dense metro and intercity fiber assets. Zayo is headquartered in Boulder, Colorado, with European headquarters in London and Paris. Larry asked about funding these acquisitions and Ken said, "That's a good question. And we've certainly been funding along the way a number of acquisitions in the US and Europe..." There's more...

We are at the Mountain Desert Region EY Entrepreneur of the Year Finalists Reception at the Governor's Mansion here in Denver, Colorado, speaking with Todd Dutkin, CEO, Fresca Foods. Since 2003, Todd has helped transform Fresca Foods from a small frozen foods manufacturer into a paradigm shifting supply chain partner, and now toward a vision as a fully integrated food company. During this time, Todd has led Fresca to 45%+ annual growth each year. He managed a diverse range of commercial disciplines including Business Development, Corporate Strategy, P&L Management, Product Development and M&A. Larry asked Todd what advice would he give to an entrepreneur Todd relied, "I think one of the things that stuck with me throughout my career as an entrepreneur is to follow your dreams. But not just to follow - be prepared to put hard work behind your dreams to reach your goal. Because, it is truly the one-percent inspiration and 99% perspiration that makes you successful." Service that brings together car owners and drivers

Lucy Sanders, CEO for the National Center for Women and Information Technology or NCWIT along with Larry Nelson, Director of w3w3® Media Network interviewed Robin Chase who is founder and CEO of Buzzcar, a service that brings together car owners and drivers in a car sharing marketplace. Buzzcar.com empowers individuals to take control of their mobility, without looking to governments or big businesses for solutions. Robin is also founder and former CEO of Zipcar, the largest car sharing company in the world, and GoLoco, an online ridesharing community. Robin explained, "We all want to get more out of what we own or have already invested in, or, conversely, to pay only for what we use. Buzzcar, takes the second most expensive asset individuals own (second to their house), that sits idle about 22 out of every 24 hours, and enables it to be shared with neighbors and friends resulting in a much more efficient use of those cars. No matter what you are selling, it has got to be put in a way that appeals to that person (company, government)'s self interest. Getting the brand absolutely right was one of the keys to Zipcar's success. We were financially smart, cool, hip, urban, fun. If you live in the city, who doesn't want to be like that?" Robin offers some great advice for entrepreneurs... listen...
